Annotation style The annotation must be linear, from left to right, and incremental, that is: first, clauses inside sentences must be related; then, sentences inside paragraphs must be related; finally, paragraphs must be related. Only binary structures are allowed. Text segmentation Carlson and Marcu (2001) rules must be followed. Although these rules were defined for English, they are generic enough to be applied for Brazilian Portuguese. If it happens that the judgers disagree about a segmentation point, the most generic and comprehensive segmentation must be adopted. Relations determination (including nucleus and satellites differentiation) For determining the relations between text spans, the extended relation set must be used. Other relations besides the ones defined can not be used. If it happens that the judgers disagree about a relation, the most generic relation must be adopted. If this is not the case and both relations look equally plausible, a third judger, expert in RST, must be consulted for deciding which relation is the most appropriate.
